GREENLAND SHARK CARCASS FOUND ON BEACH NEAR SEPT-ÎLES
Share
The carcass of a Greenland shark (Somniosus microcephalus) washed up on a beach in Matamec on August 15. Photo analysis would suggest it was an immature female of approximately 2.5 m. Cause of death is unknown. No external injuries were apparent. Unfortunately, the lower jaw was removed by a passer-by so it was impossible to determine whether or not the animal was able to feed.
